'I am currently working in and around the Peak District, which is where I grew up, and now live. The surrounding landscape has always been a major influence on my work. During my three years studying fine art in Cardiff I took advantage of living close to some spectacular scenery and wildlife. I have been painting flowers in their natural landscape for the past four years. I make initial drawings from life at close range and use them as a basis for my paintings. From this point they develop and can unexpectedly evolve into something more abstract. I use a variety of materials and methods of application in my work, this allows me to push ideas and discover new things in painting.
